I am the art Teacher at Diamond Canyon and I have been teaching there for 6 years. It has been a wonderful experience there and I am looking forward to keep the creative minds alive!!
I have wonderful NEW art lessons eager to teach to the students. I currently meet with other art teachers once or twice a month to share, elaborate,discuss strong assessments, and most of all techniques we share to consistently be a successful art teacher:)

How do I grade artwork? I use a rubric using the following categories to grade all artwork. Maximum points in each category is 3 points. Minimum is 1 point. Each less is worth 15 total points.
4 Points= AWESOME behavior! READY TO LEARN!
A 4 point class will: come into classroom, sit down quietly, pay attention, good citizens, works quietly, pay attention to directions, follow directions, stays seated, doesn't touch supplies until they are directed, cleans up on time, respectful to self, teacher, classmates, takes care of classroom and supplies, on task and helpful! Whew!
3 Points = Fair to partly cloudy - NEED REMINDERS TO STAY ON TASK
A "3 point class" will: be quiet most of the time, needs a few reminders to stay on task and keep working, follows directions, a few students may have trouble cleaning up but overall, the group is helpful to each other and things get done, they are a pretty nice group! Overall, very good class which needs a few reminders.
2 Points = "Talkative 2's" TEACHER CHOICE - WE NEED TO FOCUS
A "2 point class" will.... come into class and talkative during transitions, lots of walking around and getting out of seat, not helping each other much, disruptive, not paying attention or listening to teacher, not following directions very well, needs some reminding - as I say "less talking, more working please...".
1 Point = Sad times - Need to contact parents to get behavior on track :(
A "1 point class" will....be loud and disruptive to the point that learning is disrupted, they abuse supplies, not helpful, not listening, not demonstrating the 6 pillars of character, they may have issues keeping hands to themselves and their own work, they don't clean up when asked. The major difference between a 2 and a 1 is respect - a "1 class" is a class that's having a bad day and we need to reflect and correct behavior.
- Following Directions: Does the student follow directions given for the assignment?
3 = followed directions perfectly, 2 = good but missed a few points, 1 = needs work - Creativity: Did the student try something new and different?
3 = VERY creative and interesting work, 2 = tried new things but could be better, 1 = played it safe - Work Habits: Are you in class doing your work or talking about other topics.
3 = On task and getting a lot of work done, 2 = Working but could focus a bit more, 1 = off task - Use of Supplies: Mastery of medium and respectful using art supplies
3 = Very respectful and uses supplies very well, 2 = not quite mastered but very respectful of supplies, 1 = disrespectful (stabbing erasers, misuse of supplies) - Quality: Is the work neat, done carefully, did the artist take their time?
3 = Great quality - museum worthy, 2 = nice but made a few mistakes, 1 = sloppy work - needs improvement
